Message from our Chair, Lyndal Plant
2023 has been Treenet’s busiest and most productive year to date. We’ve progressed major projects – Street Tree Species Trials, Engineering for Trees, Avenues of Honour, Tree Cities of the World. We’ve worked for better protection of urban trees, helped metro and regional members with their projects, launched the Urban Tree Trials Database, worked with schools, supported community events and distributed Pelzer Prize trees. 2023 saw the biggest National Street Tree Symposium to date, we presented awards, managed arboretum tours, presented papers at international conferences, supported research grant applications and research projects, and we haven’t stopped!
In this December News we present some works that demonstrate how designing for trees in urban areas is cost effective and best for the community and environment. The urgent need for better tree protection in WA and in SA is highlighted, and we report on threats to trees commemorating Vietnam Veterans from a Department of Defence project.
From all at Treenet we wish you a happy and fun festive season with family and friends and we look forward to continuing this work on your behalf in 2024. Enjoy this edition of Treenet News, take some time to get amongst some trees, and have a Happy New Year.
