Tree Valuation: implementing new strategies for urban forestry in the City of Melbourne
The City of Melbourne uses tree valuation to determine the value of tree protection bonds and fees for tree removals. The valuation method was developed in 1990, and updated in 2012 to include ecosystem service quantification.
Since then, scientific research and technical advancements have improved our understanding of the benefits of trees in the urban environment.
Strategic direction for urban forestry has also evolved, leading to new priorities for tree managers.
The City of Melbourne has been working to update their tree valuation method to include new considerations, such as habitat value.
In this presentation, Kelly will provide an update on implementation of the new valuation method, including industry feedback.
