Bushfires – South Eastern Australia – an Arborist’s Perspective

Ben Kenyon

For many people the bushfires that ravaged parts of Australia during spring and Summer of 2019/20 would have been a terrible, new experience.  For others an all too familiar part of lived experience.

As professional members of the arboricultural industry, your services would likely be called upon, as part of the second-responders, to assist with rendering post-fire affected areas safe from the potential hazard of fire-damaged trees.  This is vital work to ensure the authorities and mop-up teams can safely access and inspect sites and to prepare routes for return travel by property owners.

It would be sheer folly to assume the ‘business-as-usual’ approach to the assessment of trees for their salvation, modification or indeed removal when faced with the aftermath of a fire-ground.

Ben’s presentation is essential viewing.
